Haciendas & Train Journey

Departure Day: Monday

Day 1:  QUITO

Arrival to Quito International airport, where our representative will be waiting to transfer you to the hotel Casa Aliso.

Day 2: QUITO

Breakfast included at the hotel.

Pick up from your hotel for private guided City Tour of Quito; visit the colonial area to enjoy the Independence main Square with its awe Cathedral, the Government Palace and Archbishop Palace. Visit the beautiful gold church of “La Compañia” (1606), which has the most ornate and richly sculptured façade and is considered a finest example of the Baroque architecture in America. You will also see the church of San Francisco. B

Continuing the tour to the north of the city where the Equatorial Line is located, you will find a monument marking the latitude 0º 00' 00''. This tour includes a visit to Inti-Ñan solar museum and lunch at local restaurant. Return to Quito and overnight at Hotel Casa Aliso B/L

Day 3: QUITO - OTAVALO

Breakfast included at the hotel, you will start your trip driving north to Quito through the valley of Calderón passing by the Andean landscapes, you will arrive to Otavalo and its famous indigenous market just in time to bargain for hand-knitted wool sweaters, colorful tapestries, wood carvings, silver jewelry, native paintings, woolen and Panama hats, and much more. Then enjoy a visit to Cotacachi, an entire town dedicated to selling fine leather products and handicrafts and continue to Cuicocha crater lagoon, overnight at Hacienda Cusin. B

Day 4: OTAVALO - TRAIN OF THE FREEDOM

Early breakfast and transfer to “La Libertad” train station at Ibarra city. Where

you will start the train journey to Salinas valley, the railway will cross some bridges and tunnels built by pickaxe and shovel with an exotic view and natural landscapes. Return to Otavalo and overnight at Hacienda Cusin.

Day 5: OTAVALO - ANTISANA RESERVE

After breakfast, the journey continues to Antisana Reserve a great opportunity to hike and with some luck to see condors. Overnight at Hacienda Guaytara. B/L

Day 6: ANTISANA – MACHACHI

Continue the tour to Hacienda La Alegria a great place to do horse riding (payable locally) or hike to “Pasochoa” Volcano. Overnight at Hacienda La Alegria. B

Day 7: MACHACHI - COTOPAXI AREA

After breakfast, transfer to “Machachi” train station to start the journey across the “Avenue of the Volcanoes”, you will arrive to “El Boliche Reserve” time to explore the area and do a trekking. Drive south to Lasso area and check in at Hacienda La Cienega. B

Day 8: COTOPAXI - BAÑOS

After breakfast, full day guided tour to Cotopaxi National Park, this is an ecological sanctuary of 36,000 hectares (88,920 acres) surrounding Cotopaxi, the second highest volcano in Ecuador, especially attractive for nature lovers, with the treeless vegetation of the Andean moorlands or páramo. Bird life includes: Andean gulls, ducks, some hummingbirds and with some luck the condor. The tour includes a drive through the surrounding parkland with its paramo vegetation, wonderful views, birds and flowers to Limpiopungo, a large Andean lagoon at about 3,800 m above sea level or the opportunity to walk to the refuge below glacier. Drive south to Baños area, overnight at Hacienda Leito. B

Day 9: BAÑOS - RIOBAMBA

After breakfast, full day guided tour to visit Baños ant the “Waterfalls Route”, continue driving to Riobamba area. Overnight at Hacienda Abraspungo. B

Day 10: RIOBAMBA - CUENCA

After breakfast, travel to “Alausi” train station to start the Devil´s Noise journey.

After amazing trip, you will drive south to Cuenca city; visit en route Ingapirca Archeological Site. Overnight at Hotel Santa Lucia. B

Day 11: CUENCA

After breakfast, private guided walking tour of Cuenca and visit to the Homero Ortega Panama Hat factory. In the afternoon you will visit Chordeleg and Gualaceo towns, time to see and buy traditional handicrafts. Return to Hotel Santa Lucia for overnight.

Day 12: CUENCA - GUAYAQUIL

After breakfast, private transfer to Guayaquil, visit en route Cajas National Park, upon arrival to Guayaquil visit the Historical Park and transfer to the Hotel Hampton Inn. B

Day 13: GUAYAQUIL

Breakfast included at the hotel, transfer to Durán station to start “Sendero Arrozales” railway where you will see the agricultural production, customs and traditions of the coastal people.

Then transfer to the airport for international flight or extension to Galapagos Islands.
